Sluis city walk
- Historical culture
- Guided tour
Inside Sluis’ town walls you’ll find history, a good atmosphere, restaurants and shops all within walking distance of one another. Sluis has a rich history and you’ll find reminders of times gone by just about everywhere, such as the fortified walls and the old town gates. The author of the Van Dale dictionary, known in the Netherlands as the ‘Dikke van Dale’ was born in Sluis and it is the only town in the country to have a belfry. This prestigious Belfort belfry was built in 1375 and reflects the wealth and power of the town both past and present. It is a magnificent building and we can recommend taking a look at the beautiful council chamber with its decorative wooden carvings, wall tapestries and paintings. You can also climb the belfry tower for a fantastic view out over Zeeland and Flanders.
