Experience the sea (Oosterschelde)
- Animals /Plants
Fishing was, and is an important source of income for the inhabitants in Zeeland. This makes sense, because Zeeland consists of a great sea with many fish. The fishermen in Zeeland are still active in these waters, Yerseke is one of these areas where you will learn about the mussel and oyster cultivation. You will experience the water yourself by going on a boat trip.
You will be welcomed with a cup of coffee or tea and a real delicacy of Zeeland (Zeeuwse bolus) in Yerseke. When you are enjoying your cup of coffee or tea, a film about the mussel culture is played. Your guide will take you on a walk past the nostalgic oyster pits and the great harbour with many fishing boats.
After an interesting walk you will depart to the ship where you will have a boat trip.
You will go aboard on a passenger ship for a trip over one of the many waters of Zeeland, the Oosterschelde. This is the largest and in 2002 the most known National Park. It is a wide waterway, with ebb and flow, sandbanks, all types of birds and even seals can be seen. You begin the trip with a lunch on board, it consists of: assorted bread and rolls, with sweet or savoury fillings, 2 cups of coffee or tea, glass of milk or orange juice. During the trip you can relax and enjoy the sunshine and the wind in your hair, with a drink if you wish.
Departure to Zierikzee on your own.
Arriving in Zierikzee you can enjoy some free time. If you would like to get to know Zierikzee better, we can reserve a guide who will show you all the great parts of Zierikzee.
In a charming restaurant on the harbour you can enjoy a mini fish tasting. For the people who don’t like fish an alternative menu will be served.
